Just lately, we have been hearing in the news about fires, floods, drought, earthquakes, volcanoes.... Which disastors are down to mother nature and which ones are to do with climate change? How can we help make a difference?

Let's find out in term 2, 2009!

Our Year 6/7 Camp at Woodford

On Wednesday the 18th March, Years 6 and 7 travelled to Woodford in the beautiful, green Sunshine Coast hinterland. The journey was filled with laughs, talking and excitement as everyone wondered what camp was going to be like?! Some of us were a little sad too, to be leaving our families for two nights.

We spent three adventurous and fun filled days, camping in tents and working on different activities as a whole group and in separate teams.Some of the activities we tried were:
-The challenging hike up the very steep and rocky hill (Oh and Muddy - some of us slipped into big, brown muddy puddles);
-The problematic and daring milk crate climb;
-The raft building team challenge and
-The daunting flying fox, high up in the trees!
We also learnt about looking after our environment: We considered growing your own food or buying it locally to reduce carbon emissions; We recycled everything we could that we used; We experienced the water efficient showers (you had to fill a bucket for your shower!!!)and all water was captured and cleaned on site.

Some of us experienced wildlife first hand as Mrs C discovered at about 2.00am on Thursday morning! "Mrs C, wake up,wake up! There's a gruesome, green frog in the toilet and I'm desperate to go!"

On Thursday night, it was time for 'SJVs Got Talent'. This was to be a night filled with laughter, amazement, creativity and MUCH talent. After a close contest, the final decision was left to the audience clap-o-meter and Ella took the title with her stunning solo version of 'Amazing Grace'.

At the end of our camp we got to plant a tree. When we arrived back at school, we were all VERY tired and sleepy. (Some of us might have had the odd snore on the bus- mentioning no names of course!) Some of us tried to have a little rest, while we waited for parents to collect us. What was your favourite part of camp?

The agency fights for justice by empowering people to help themselves.
